“别说是你了，我还忍受不了这样的生活呢！” 狐狸回答说，“你看看我们周围的环境就明白了，简直让我受不了，就算我吃饱了又能怎样呢？这样恶劣的环境简直让我消化不了！但愿你能够明白，我还是很善良的！我也没办法，总归要生存下去。再说，还有一大堆的子女要靠我养活呢。而且，又不是只有我一个人十这些事。每当我抓小鸡的时候，心里都难过得像刀割一样。我也是不情愿的，但是又迫不得已啊！”
“哦，” 农夫答道，“如果你说的是实话，我愿意帮你个忙。你可以来当我的佣人，每天负责帮我看护小鸡，一旦有别的狐狸来偷袭小鸡，你就马上通知我，这样你心里也不会再受煎熬了，也能保护小鸡了，岂不是两全其美吗？” 狐狸听从了农夫的建议，当天就给农夫当了佣人。
农夫把工作分派给狐狸之后，日子过得舒服极了，甚至三五天都不去看看他的小鸡们，对狐狸没有一点的不信任。
狐狸呢，日子过得也很舒服，现在它长了一身的肥肉，每天晚上它都会对农夫的鸡下手,到最后，连一只鸡都不剩了。
将工作分配给不合适的人做，往往不会取得好的结果。
